The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent is set to launch its annual report on Tuesday 21st 2010 for the first time in Africa here in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
The report dubbed “World Disaster Report 2010” will officially be launched at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre with the main theme of the report being “Focus on Urban risks”.

Kenya’s official population according to the latest tally released on Tuesday by Kenya’s planning and national development minister puts the population at 38.6 million people.
The country’s population increase by 10 million people since the last one in 1999 literally implies that one million Kenyans are born every year.

Despite the arrest warrant issued to Sudan’s President Omar El-Bashir, on Friday, Omar attended the promulgation of Kenya’s new constitution as the guest of the state. This didn’t go down well with the international community who criticized Kenya for failing to arrest Bashir as per the ICC agreement.
The International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) and International Centre for Policy and Conflict (ICPC) asked the government to arrest Mr Bashir since Kenya is a signatory of the International Criminal Court.

Somalia Transition Federal Government (TFG) has been urged to develop a road map for allocating funds through the Somali National budget, for the payment of salaries for Somali Security forces. This comes as the TFG government plans to have 10,000 police officers and a fully furnished military headquarters in place by 2011.
This was disclosed over the weekend, following a Joint Security Committee (JSC) meeting held at the UN complex in Gigiri, Nairobi to oversee the installation of National Security forces in Somalia

Three Kenyan nationals arrested in Mombasa over the July 11th twin bombings have been extradited according to a police source. The suspects who had been arrested in the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa were flown to Nairobi and then flown to an Entebbe destined plane.
Kenya’s Anti Terrorism Police unit arrested the suspects on Thursday night after close monitoring by both Kenya’s and Uganda’s intelligence agents who were trailing the three suspects. Police sources told Journalists.

Kenyans overwhelmingly backed a new constitution to replace the British colonial-era draft that inflated the powers of the president. MPs allied to the ‘NO’ side conceded defeat even before the final results were announced, and called for consultations from both sides to address what they said were contentious issues. Politicians led by Higher Education Minister William Ruto and his team of eight MPs said Kenyans have made their verdict but pointed out that the two million who voted against the document is a significant number that cannot be ignored and that a consensus needed to be arrived at.

12.5 million Kenyans were expected to on Wednesday August 4, to decide whether or not to adopt a new constitution for Kenya. Voting started at 6am at 27,000 at polling stations in all 210 constituencies and ended amidst tight security at 5pm.
Passage of the Draft constitution is expected to bring radical changes to the way the country is governed, amongst which include the creation of a new chamber of Parliament and the devolution of government local counties. A vote against the draft, on the other hand, will see the process …

Tension remains high in Kenya ahead of the 4th August referendum polls for or against the proposed draft constitution. There are two rival factions the Reds who are strongly opposed to the draft constitution citing various clauses that they claim are not human and there are the Green side that are in total agreement with the draft.
