Fela! High Priest of Afrobeat. Part 1 of a 60 minutes show celebrates the life of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, the creator of Afrobeat. AfrobeatRadio’s Wuyi Jacobs threads together Fela’s impact with music and interviews with Fela’s album designer, Lemi Ghariokwu, musician Randy Weston, authors Vivien Goldman and Michael Veil, plus more.

Fela’s profile continues to spread as the Tony Award winning musical, FELA! continues it’s run on Broadway and a biopic is in production from Focus Features. The 60 minutes radio version of this documentary is released in collaboration with Knitting factory Records for national radio distribution in the USA.

October 16, 2010, we celebrate Fela Kuti’s life, music and activism during WBAI Pacifica Radio, 99.5 FM Fund Drive from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Listen live on wbai.org.

From 2:30 to 3:30, we feature the Afro-Spanish singer, the amazing Choncha Buika in an interview with AfrobeatRadio’s Akenataa Hammagaadji.
